The Venues

Chelsea FC is a football club with a record of winning major trophies both in the men’s and women’s leagues.

Their portfolio of venues included two stadiums: Stamford Bridge a 42,000 seat stadium in Fulham, and Kingsmeadow a 5,000 seat stadium in Kingston.

In addition, Chelsea FC has a comprehensive 140 acre training ground which is home to the men’s, women’s and academy teams situated in Cobham.

The Remit

Chelsea FC is a progressive organisation with a focus on continually progressing and seeking excellence in its teams to the benefit of the players, the fans and the organisation. This attitude rolls down into all the daily and match day operations.

In 2019 the club embarked on a review and benchmarking exercise regarding its cleaning services. The club felt it had operated for several years under a scope of works that needed to be reviewed and updated. Rockvolt was appointed to:

  1. Review the current operational delivery

  2. Engage with all stakeholders across the Chelsea portfolio, gaining their views and service requirements

  3. Progress the cleaning services and present a clear framework for future delivery

  4. Cost and budget the service provision

  5. Mobilise a new contract with the incumbents, novating the contract terms and conditions

  6. Initiate a new set of KPIs based on a clear service level agreement

  7. Deliver ongoing auditing and review of service standards

  8. Support the Facilities Department in operational progression

In 2020 the focus moved to progressing the cleaning and waste in a more sustainable manner, building useful changes into the daily operations to improve working practices and the waste management to decrease emissions and improve sustainability. Rockvolt supported by:

  1. Developing the waste strategy, working closely with the stakeholders including facilities, catering and waste management

  2. Changing the waste streaming at Kingsmeadow Stadium to improve recycling

The Benefits

Rockvolt has reviewed, analysed and presented recommendations to improve service delivery. This has led to:

  1. New cleaning scope of works that is fit for purpose, clear and measurable at Stamford Bridge, Kingsmeadow and Cobham venues

  2. Efficiency savings in cleaning delivery, lowering costs in real terms

  3. Improved communication and working practices between stakeholders and service provider

  4. Clear delivery standards that enhance the guest experience

  5. Improvements to the sustainable impact of cleaning and waste operations

  6. Increase in recycling at Kingsmeadow of 100%

  7. Development with Kingsmeadow catering teams to generate single waste streams of food, glass and cardboard
