BASIS Consultation: The Role of Sport in Building Back Better – be part of the conversation.

The British Association for Sustainable Sport is seeking your views on the role of sport in building back better from COVID-19.

To fill out the survey, please follow the link to our website and click on ‘Take The Survey’ – https://basis.org.uk/build-back-better

Hear our Chief Executive, Russell Seymour, launch the consultation on BBC Sportsday here: https://basis.org.uk/media

COVID-19 continues to be a huge challenge, but our webinars and discussions with members throughout lockdown have unearthed a strong desire for sport to do things differently and become more sustainable.

Underpinning this is a recognition that climate change, biodiversity loss, water shortages and extreme weather are even broader, harsher challenges than COVID-19.  They are challenges from which we cannot self-isolate.  They are looming risks and sport needs to address them – sport is exposed to these problems and contributes to them.

We also recognise the power of sport to make a difference.  Sport contributes £39bn to the UK economy. This gives sport a meaningful stake in the UK economy.  And the cultural power of sport – exemplified by the likes of Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling in the last days and weeks – can be a real force in helping to shape what comes next.

The BASIS consultation seeks views from across the UK sports community about what contribution sport can make to a resilient, environmentally sustainable recovery from COVID-19, and what sport needs from the government, and other agencies, to enable the sector’s best contribution.

Responses to the questions will inform a White Paper, to be developed by BASIS and published in the summer of 2020. The White Paper will outline an ambitious pathway for sport in the UK to become a world leader in sustainability, and underpin the assistance BASIS will offer across the sporting landscape to help facilitate a clean, green, secure and prosperous future.

We would really value your input – and please feel free to share it with anyone you think will be interested.   To fill out the survey, please follow the link  – https://basis.org.uk/build-back-better
